Tantric practice specify that sex has three distinct and separate purposes—procreation, pleasure, and liberation.
Those seeking liberation prolong orgasm for a higher form of ecstasy, as the couple learns to appreciate each other’s bodies in a spiritual and sensual way, using breath, stretching and sensual touching to bring each other pleasure. In many ways the use of tantric yoga and the art of tantric sex can be used as a tool to help couples create more intimacy in the relationship. It creates a form of increased awareness between the couple and using the energy of the chakras as well.

Couples do not have to be experts at yoga or at tantric sex to enjoy the wonderful practice itself, there are many guides that couples can use to add the tantric quality to their love making. As a Sex Therapist and Marriage Counselor I will often incorporate tantric sex along with sensate focus created by Masters and Johnson as a way for couples to slowly get to know each other’s bodies again and enhance the intimacy between them.
For couples that may be having some problems in their sex life and want to explore ways to open up more with one another, watching tantric sex guides and reading tantric books together will not only stimulate the mind, body and soul but it will ease some of the sexual tension that the couple may have with one another. The whole idea behind the use of tantric yoga is to learn to slow down the process of love making by getting to know one another intimately and easing the pressure of performance with love making. The meaning of tantric is in the experience, not in the end result of the intimate exchange between lovers.
